L.I.F.E. Argentina
This short video was produced by an Honors Student, Marissa Perez-Covarrubias, at Sacramento State University for her final project for the senior capstone course. This video documents her experience volunteering for a non-profit organization called L.I.F.E. in Argentina. After watching this video, I realized that while we live in a very prosperous country, many other parts of the world are filled with poverty. The two girls shown in the video showed me that while them and their families were homeless, education is what is giving them hope for the future. While many students take education for granted in first-world countries, children from all around the world would do anything for the amount of education that is available in the United States. The perseverance of the two girls has stopped me from taking my education for granted and is allowing me to take responsibility in learning as much as I can. I have grasped the meaning of high education as it relates to society. High education leads to a prosperous society, such as the United States, due to the abundant amount of intelligent and innovative people that it produces. On the other hand, low levels of education will create a society that is filled with poverty. As shown in the video, there are an estimated amount of 16,000 people living on the streets of Buenos Aires. Due to the low levels of education that is available to the children of Buenos Aires, many children are not able to live up to their full potential.

"Quit India Speech"
On August 8,1942, Mahatma Gandhi delivered his "Quit India Speech" where he made an appeal for a mass civil disobedience movement to get India free from British control. One concept presented in his speech was that you have to work for it yourself. Gandhi said "every Indian who desires their freedom and strives must be his own guide." Gandhi was trying to tell his people that they must work for their goals in order to make it a reality. His speech shaped my way of viewing my education. I used to believe that teachers would be with me every step of the way through my academic career, however I now see that I have to take true responsibility for my own education. I have to see what I want to learn and do everything in my power to learn everything I can about that topic. Not only should I memorize all the logistics, but I should understand and learn how to apply that knowledge effectively. Gandhi's mantra, "do or die", has shaped my path of achieving my goals. I will work the hardest in order to reach my goals in order to do what I really want to do.
